Olympian Courtney Frerichs In Studio!

Courtney Frerichs, Olympian and Silver Medal winner at the World Championships in the Steeplechase, joined us in studio to talk about her incredible journey from Nixa High School to London for the World Championships and her preparation for the next Olympics. Her husband, Griffon, was also with us as he just finished his first full marathon! Our co-host tonight, from Hiland Dairy, was the always informative and entertaining Greg Stephenson.
The next two weeks will feature replays as our host will be in Rome, Italy taking her daughter to settle in for a semester of study abroad. We will replay the sailing adventures interview with the Greg Burnett family (by popular request) and our interview with Kurt Warner and Coach Terry Allen. Youth Sports, continued....so Important!

On this show we continued our conversation concerning the importance of youth sports. We were joined by the very successful Drury Women's Basketball Coach Molly Miller and her father, Jack Carter. We discussed the value in having fun at the youth level, the psychological and academic effects, and we gave out some valuable tips for parents of young athletes. Great guests!

A much needed conversation about youth sports and the importance of being positive and teaching correctly occurred with an informative panel. Shane Friebe has directed multiple youth leagues at The Courts and gave a valuable perspective about some rule changes that are happening there to enhance the youth experience. Coach Brian McTague, Glendale Boys Basketball, gave us an excellent account as a high school coach and parent along with the appreciated point of view from the college coaching world with College of Ozark Women's Basketball Coach Becky Vest.

Rules and regulations keep our sports standardized and unified. The ever entertaining and informative Kevin Garner with the Missouri Sports High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) updates us on the new rules while the knowledgable former Executive Director of MSHSAA and retired Sports Director with the National Federation for High School Sports, Becky Oakes educates us on the process.

Last week we honored Missouri State University Handball Coach Dr. Tommy Burnett announcing that the MSU handball courts will now "Bear" his name. He also shared stories about his days at Arkansas and with the Super Bowl III Champion New York Jets.
This week we had University of Arkansas Women's Basketball Coach Mike Neighbors on. He shared how thrilled he is to be back home and his vision for the program. Incarnate Word Academy Coach Dan Rolfes also joined us about his success at a private school in St. Louis and why he loves coaching girls.

Presenting the class of 2017 - SASHOF Inductees
Here they are...three out of the five 2017 induction class for the Springfield Area Sports Hall of Fame. They joined us in studio along with our President, Mark Stillwell. Coach George Wilson, Lyndal Scranton, and Amanda Newton-Plotner were with us tonight. Also, being inducted next week is multi-sport athlete Mary Phyl Dwight, and, posthumously, local bowler Sean Swanson, Our inductees shared the impact of sports in their lives and their excitement for the upcoming banquet.
Next week we will speak with Mary Phyl Dwight about her induction. We will also have former NFL player Ronald Moore here to talk about how he now advises current NFL players on their finances. Tune in next Wednesday, September 20th from 6:00-7:00!

Come Sail Away....
What a fascinating story! We caught up with Dr. Greg Burnett (Captain) and his family, Dr. Melinda Burnett, Tommy, and Allie about their adventure sailing in the Caribbean and Europe over the past two years. We learned about the "cruising culture" (it's a thing!), island hopping, racing, exploring, and many other interesting tidbits as they ran their own family city on the water. The Amazing Marvin, a Leopard 48, housed this family on their two year journey and they have documented it all.
